Description

We are seeking a strategic and operationally minded Director of Finance to lead our financial department. In the waste management industry, margins are won and lost in the details of route density, fleet maintenance, and regulatory navigating. You will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls, while acting as a key partner to operations to drive profitability and sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

- Strategic Financial Planning: Lead the annual budgeting process and long-range financial planning, with a specific focus on municipal contract renewals and disposal site life-cycle costs.
- Operational Analysis: Partner with operations to analyze route density, fleet utilization, and disposal economics.
- CAPEX Management: Oversee the financing and depreciation of heavy equipment, CNG/Electric fleet transitions, and facility infrastructure projects.
- Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to California's evolving environmental regulations (e.g., SB 1383) and their impact on financial reporting and rate-setting.
- Contract Management: Partner with the executive team on franchise agreement negotiations and municipal bid modeling.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and develop a finance team, fostering a culture of accuracy, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Future Financial Planning: Help the company grow and expand with an eye on potential IPO readiness.
- Oversee All Entities: Manage the financial picture across multiple domestic and international business entities.

Requirements

- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership, ideally within waste management/environmental, logistics, construction, or a related heavy-asset industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle) and route-management software integration.
- Proven ability to translate complex operational data into actionable financial insights.
- Familiarity with the San Francisco Bay Area's unique labor market and regulatory environment.

Preferred qualifications

- CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
- Direct experience in waste management, environmental services, logistics, or heavy-asset industries.
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite or Oracle plus route-management software integrations.
- Experience supporting M&A, multi-entity consolidation, or IPO-readiness work.
