Recyling /Collections Operations Manager

Oakland, California

Operations

Full Time

Oversee all daily operations at the San Jose collection facility, including the disposal activities at the Materials Recovery Facility, (MRF).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations at the collection facility, including MRF disposal activities

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies

  • Lead and manage teams (supervisors, drivers, technicians, staff), including training and performance management

  • Maintain high safety standards, conduct audits, and lead incident investigations

  • Monitor key KPIs (throughput, compliance, fuel usage, maintenance) and drive performance

  • Manage site budgets, control costs, and identify efficiency opportunities

  • Serve as liaison with regulators, customers, vendors, and partners

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for operations, sustainability, and resource recovery

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years in waste management or industrial operations

  • 3–5 years in a leadership or supervisory role

  • Experience with environmental regulations, waste permitting, and audit processes (strongly preferred)

Requirements

MRF Manager

San José, California

Supervise the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) daily operations to ensure the highest standards of safety and operations are followed to ensure safety, improve production, and maintain cost management within two MRF facilities

Facilities & Processing

Full Time

  • Supervisory Responsibilities include but are not limited to the direction of up to 75 full-time employees, as well as indirect supervision of contract employees.
  •  Ensures efficient and safe operation of the site. 
  • Ensures compliance with CWS safety training, policies and procedures. 
  • Creates work schedules that meets the site’s staffing needs. 
  • Partner with the maintenance department to ensure all equipment remains in working order and in compliance with safety standards. 
  • Engage employees to create a safe, energetic work environment through feedback and recognition. 
  • Investigates and completes reports for work related injuries and/or vehicle accidents/incidents and submits paperwork to appropriate insurance carriers in a timely manner. 
  • Conducts employee safety observations to ensure safety and productivity procedures are being followed. 
  • Enforces safety rules and regulations; this includes disciplining employees for safety rules violations and unsafe acts.
  •  Ensure new employees are trained in general safety policies and proper use of assigned equipment. 
  • Will handle special projects and other related management duties as assigned. Updates and submits required reports in a timely manner.

  • 2 - 5 years of management experience.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Knowledgeable in Federal DOT regulations.

  • Knowledgeable in OSHA standard regulations.

  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to coach and develop subordinates.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Preferred  Requirements

  • Transportation/Waste industry experience.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

  • Experience from the transfer station or material recovery industries.

Field Auditor

Facilities & Processing

Oakland, California

This position is responsible for coordinating and participating in all California Waste Solutions (CWS) public education activities and events. The individual will also be responsible for leading CWS’s ECO-Team in auditing resident recycle bins and providing courtesy notices to our customers when they are not using their home recycle bins properly and will educate them on the proper way to recycle.

Full Time

  • Audits customers’ home recycling bin for contamination

  • · Participate in company public education activities and events evenings and/or weekends

  • · Participates in community volunteer programs and company event logistics

  • · Provides educational literature for customers

  • · Other responsibilities as needed and required

Responsibilities

  • · Proficiency with commonly used Microsoft software programs

  • · Ability to work in a team environment

  • · Ability to interact with diverse people

  • · Good general oral and written communication skills

  • · Morning, evening, weekend and holiday work will be required at times

  • · Valid California Driver’s License required
